How AP English Literature at Brightfox works

AP exam prep is a two-phase journey: for most of the year, we focus on personalized tutoring to strengthen your grades. Starting in late March, we shift to dedicated AP exam preparation for the mid-May test — including a diagnostic exam, targeted tutoring, and extra practice tests to ensure you're ready to succeed.

At Brightfox, you buy a package of tutoring hours, or credits, that you can use on any service we offer. Test prep (SAT, ACT, AP), schoolwork tutoring (Math, Science, English, History), and college counseling / essay writing. Have other kids in the family? Hours can be used on them, too. There's a four year expiration. Get help in anything you need help with. Nothing you buy will go to waste!

At Brightfox, you can choose the tutoring format that works best for your family. Local to San Ramon? Join us in person, online, or mix a both, e.g. online on Thursday and in-person on Tuesday. Live farther away or prefer the convenience of home? Our online sessions deliver the same personalized support wherever you are.

Scheduling at Brightfox is simple and flexible. Just choose the subject, and all available time slots appear. You can book the same slot each week for consistency or change it up week to week. Do more sessions before a big exam, or take a break during vacation. Sessions run six days a week, in-person and online.

Brightfox is a 2:1 student to teacher ratio with the instructor alternating. It's not a traditional group class. It's 1:1 instruction followed by independent practice to assess student understanding.

Around mid-March, Brightfox students take a diagnostic AP exam to assess their current knowledge. The test taken from home, anytime and is 60–90 minutes long. Afterward, we meet with you to review the results and identify strengths and gaps. From there, we create a tailored two-month plan that includes tutoring sessions and practice tests leading up to exam day.

BrightFox offers three main ways for students to get extra practice outside of tutoring sessions. First, instructors can assign homework—extra practice problems your student can complete anytime at home, included free as part of the program. Second, students may take chapter tests about once a month to track progress in class, and finally, in April, we provide four full AP practice exams to ensure they’re fully prepared for the official test.

With Brightfox, you'll always have clear insights into your student's progress. After every session, our instructors send a summary note. By default, it's texted to you instantly, so you know exactly what was covered without needing to log in anywhere. You'll also have access to detailed analytics in your Brightfox portal, showing which topics your student is struggling with.
